User-Centered Design– the key to innovation

The capability to innovate is an essential part of every business. But how do companies come up with new ideas that are relevant to their consumers? What do they do to identify exactly this gap in the market? One of the keywords is User-Centered Design.

In the master seminar “Client-Centered Innovation”, our students will go through the whole innovation process from scratch and internalize it step-by-step. To kick-off the course, our students attended an introductory two-day hybrid workshop including consulting training with Dr. Andreas Reinhardt, former strategy consultant and the first Ph.D. student who finished his doctorate at our Chair , and Toni Müller, Research & Teaching Assistant at our Chair. The workshop provided a solid foundation on how to develop useful solutions and present them to potential clients.

Combining theory and practice

Now it’s time to put that knowledge into practice straight away! Our 16 course participants accepted the challenge to develop hands-on solutions for FrischGefischt, a young business that supplies restaurants and consumers with fresh and sustainable fish from local coastlines. Using the start-up as the business case, the participants will develop innovative solutions in their teams and present them to a jury of experts at the end of the semester.

We are very pleased that our students were able to gain exciting insights into the fields of innovation and consulting and thank Dr. Andreas Reinhardt for the enriching visit!
