Research highlights

We proudly announce that we participated in diversity research and international conferences during the academic year 2023.

After two years of investigation, Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt, Anna-Maria Mazurczak, and Sarah-Alena Rössig presented the research study "A University for All - University and Diversity: Status Quo.", which was published in the following magazines “Forschung & Lehre“ on 09/23 and ”DUZ-Magazin für Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft“ on 08/23. The research concluded that while establishing a diverse and inclusive working and study environment is important to universities, there is often a lack of resources to implement and communicate targeted measures.

Our doctoral students took part in two important international conferences during 2023. In June, Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt, Angela Kipf, and Saskia Salmen attended the European Academy of Management conference in Dublin. Angela presented her research on social class in top management, while Saskia participated in the Doctoral Colloquium to discuss her research on strategic diversity and inclusion in organizations. In July, Saskia Salmen had the opportunity to present her research, network, collaborate, and learn from a diverse and talented academic community at the Academy of International Business Conference 2023 in Warsaw.

Teaching highlights

Once again, our classes fostered our students' development of critical thinking and teamwork skills and taught them to apply the theory to the social and business context.

Seminar "Integrated Care for Communities: Healthy Solutions for Ukraine" by Prof. Dr. Elena Reshetnyak

Our visiting professor, Elena Reshetnyak, gave our Master's students a chance to gain insights into the innovations in the global healthcare industry and encouraged the students to develop unique ideas regarding improving Ukrainian healthcare. Experts in the US, Germany, and Ukraine healthcare solutions were invited as guest lecturers.

Seminar “Customer Centric Innovation” by Tabea Brandt and Sarah-Alena Rössig

Bachelor students applied innovation processes to develop innovative digital services solutions to revitalize social connections in multinational companies and society. They experienced a first approach to working in diverse teams and gained critical thinking and problem-solving skills throughout the creative process.

Master lecture "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Multinational Organizations" by Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt and Sarah-Alena Rössig

Guest lectures by top-tier company representatives shared their current actions, strategies, advances, and challenges of setting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. They underlined the importance of aligning practices with the enterprise's diversity policies, measuring diversity to manage it within the organization, and showing transparency to their stakeholders.

Also, we want to congratulate Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt and Research & Teaching Assistant Saskia Salmen for receiving teaching awards from the Faculty of Economics

and Management for their outstanding commitment during the academic year.

A big thank you to our team, guest lecturers, and students.

Happy Holidays and New Year

After recounting the events that marked our 2023 academic year, it only remains for us to wish happy holidays and a prosperous new year to the entire university community, partners, colleagues, and friends. Let’s see each other again next year!
